California Dental Insurance
When shopping for dental insurance, many individuals want to select their own dentist. When looking at different dental insurance plans in California, there are two categories to consider. The first alternative is known as an open panel. This type of plan allows patients to receive care from the dentist of their choosing. It's up to the dentist to accept or refuse the plan payment. The other alternative when selecting California dental insurance is the closed panel option. This plan type limits payment to dentists who have signed a participation contract with the third part. Within this category, there are two types--PPO and EPO. The PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) allows a set amount to be paid to the participating dentist. If a dentist outside the provider list is used, the patient usually has a much higher out-of-pocket expense. California Dental Insurance Plans The EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization) dental insurance plan provides payment for services only to participating dentists. Any dental services received outside the participating provider list are not considered for payment. The only exception may be in case of emergency while out of the California network area--that depends on the policy you choose.
